Fishing, not Hunting

It starts with a seed. Biblically, the seed in several parables represents the word of God.

Jesus is The Word of God.

The thing about a seed, is that it is most often surrounded by fruit. Fruit is appealing, and when ripe tastes really good. Fruit is what draws an animal to the seed. Once eaten, the seed passes through the animals digestive system and eventually gets planted with fertilizer.

It is a nice system for propagating many plants. It is also, a great example of how we are to share Jesus with the unsaved.

If we try sharing Jesus with a gun or club, we are not going to plant many seeds, and our harvest will be terrible.

It makes more sense, and fits better biblically, to let the Fruit draw people to the seed. Interestingly, the Fruit is even defined.

Galatians 5:22-23a

22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23a. gentleness and self-control.

If you are looking to "win" people to Jesus by proving them wrong, you are going to win few. Arguing pointless doctrines, strict lifestyles, or sacrificial futures, isn't going to draw lost people even if they already realize they are lost.

It is far better to have some bait, and a good net. Fruit is always going to attract a hungry animal. Stomping through the weeds will only scare them off.

Being kind, loving, nice and giving is much more attractive than you being right.

Remember, you are to be presenting Jesus, not you.

Jesus alone saves. You can't even save yourself.
