Being Known is Nice
Faith in someone grows as you get to know them.
As you find that someone is trustworthy and dependable, your faith in them becomes increasingly firm.
If you find them to be a liar, your faith in them dies...and rightly so.
If your faith in someone is built upon the word of another, then your faith is based solely on the trustworthiness of that other's word.
If that person is wrong in their assessment or they lied, then your faith in that someone is built on lies.
That someone you then have faith in really doesn't exist.
If you want to like someone and don't get to know them at all, but instead build up a image of their trustworthiness based on your own desires, then again, your faith is built on a person who doesn't exist.
Idols where worshiped by those who decided not to trust God.
They did so because God did not give them what they wanted.
They hoped for another source of help or decided to make God into someone else more malleable.
Though in our culture, little statues are not a thing anymore, most people still create their own image of God and have faith in it.
That faith is a lie, for the god they trust in doesn't exist.
Faith is what God wants.
Faith is given by Him when He introduces Himself to us.
Faith grows by getting to know Him...as He is, not as we want Him to be.
Grace is what saves mankind.
Grace comes to us through faith.
If your faith is a lie, then grace will not come.
Do you really want to trust a man to tell you about the author of the universe?
"Oh, but he is so impressive in his fancy pulpit and massive church."
"He is on radio and TV!"
"He is exceedingly rich!"
"He must have studied a whole lot to become that successful"
Have you not read scripture at all?
Not one of the men of God in that book looked anything like these leaders trusted by the masses today.
Psalm 118:8 KJV
8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Is your god an idol? or is he real?
Do you know Him or are you happy with your image of Him?
Is He dependable to you...even when He doesn't do what you want?
Do you trust in a real person?
Do you know?
Do you care?
These are important questions. Uncomfortable, maybe, but important.
If you are not asking these questions to yourself, then maybe you are way to comfortable with your image of a God that is way bigger than your simple image.
Ephesians 1:17 NIV
17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
Faith is what God wants from us.
Faith in God comes when we get to know Him through His word, written, spoken or revealed.
How would you feel about those who don't really try to get to know you, but would rather ignore, or assume you are this way or that based on the word of those who also don't know you?
Yeah, He doesn't like it either.
