The Reason for Ruin
Proverbs 16:18
18. Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 22:14
14. The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit; he who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.
If you are struggling with a sinful behavior, doing your best to fix it is actually worthless, and going in the wrong direction.
Our inability to trust in God, and instead trust in ourselves, is the very reason for the sinful behavior.
As Proverbs 22:14 clearly shows, an adulterous man is already under the wrath of God, and that is the very reason for his own act of adultery. The sinful, and destructive behavior, is God's response to the man's faith in himself.
Everyone I have ever talked to that had admitted to cheating on their spouse said the same thing..."I never thought I would do that!"

Trusting God, through Jesus Christ, is the only way to find acceptance from Him.
It IS the ONLY way.
Repentance isn't stopping the sin by our own effort, or self-discipline. No, it is turning away from trusting in ourselves, or anything else, and turning toward God and accepting His control.
Yes, "Jesus take the wheel".
James 4:10
10. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
If you want to be better, there is only one way. Accept that you are not God, not even close, and give everything to Him. Then trust Him to take over.
If you trust Him, not yourself, not your pastor, not your church, not your anything, He WILL guide you.
It IS the ONLY way.
He has promised it, and He never breaks His promise.
Look, you can think this is stupid all you want, but know this, if God wants you as His, you WILL get there, even if He has to make you wreck your life to do so.
This is what I call God's Two-By-Four.
I can tell you from experience, He has a mean swing...and He doesn't miss.
