What's in a Name?
Exodus 3:
[14] God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.'"
This is what God, Himself told Moses was His name.
Since then, like everything else we do, man got sidetracked regarding the meaning behind what He really said.
Do you know, the Jews, back in the day, wouldn't speak the words I AM out loud. This was due to a bit of reverence, and then became a means of "I do it better than you!"
It still does. I was lectured a few months ago that I wasn't saying His name correctly, and therefore my prayers weren't being heard. I simply began to tell the man of my dreams, visions, and interactions with God. I said "Ithink He hears me just fine."
I wasn't boasting as I knew, as always, that he didn't believe me. But, my words made sense, which he didn't like, because, well, no one likes to think they are wrong.
The important thing about the name of God, isn't the name! It is what the name implies.
My name, "Lou" means "Warrior of renown". Unfortunately, names used to describe who they applied to. I was named after my dad, who was named after his. I have never been a warrior, or soldier, in my life. So, it doesn't really describe me here.
God's name, isn't who He is and isn't magical. No, God's name describes who He is.
He IS.
He said I AM. If you consider what this describes, is a being that encompasses ALL. As if He is all of time and space...well, because He IS.
Jesus is God, but in time. A representative or Avatar so to speak, yet He is so much more.
Hebrews 1:3
[3] The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.
John 1:1-3
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] He was with God in the beginning.
[3] Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
He IS the Words on the page, the story in its entirety, including the devil and all evil. Everything, it is written, was made by Him...and for Him.
Colossians 1 16-17
[16] For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
[17] He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
From Wikipedia:
Jesus (/ˈdʒiːzəs/) is a masculine given name derived from Iēsous (Ἰησοῦς; Iesus in Classical Latin) the Ancient Greek form of the Hebrew name Yeshua (ישוע).[1][2] As its roots lie in the name Isho in Aramaic and Yeshua in Hebrew, it is etymologically related to another biblical name, Joshua.[3]
The name Jesus, or Joshua in Hebrew, or Yehoshua as a Isrealite would pronounce it, means "God is deliverance" or God saves.
Basically it means "HE IS saves". This name does not have magical powers any more than a correct pronunciation of Yahweh does.
The name points simply to who and what God IS.
The goal and purpose of the name is to help us identify Him. To meet, and get to know Him. To find Him and interact with Him. Finally, to grow to trust Him.
Yes, that IS what His name points to. He is THE WORD, not His name. Saying His name, without knowing Him, is as useless as saying my name. "Satan! IN THE NAME OF LOU, FLEE!"
Yes, the devil would laugh at that...so would I.
Understand what God's name represents. What Jesus really IS as described by His name. If you know this...what would there be to fear?
Fear the devil? He's just a character in this story, just like you.
Sure, he is more powerful, moves faster, has lived longer, and is utterly dangerous. Still, he is just a character.
God is the WORD, The Author. Satan cannot go here or there, without God's design. God, is who you should be worried about. Especially if you are a character like the devil.
If you are really walking with God, well then...you have nothing to fear.
You are called by HIS NAME.
